After Jonah had delivered the message of repentance and judgment to the city, the people took heed to the word of the Lord. God spared the city. Jonah was angry. God showed Jonah through the life of a gourd that he would spare who he spares. The gourd spared Jonah of momentary grief and then was taken away. God’s mercy and long-suffering goes far beyond our capabilities. At times we are the messenger, and when the message is received God is the deliverer of true justice and mercy, always. read Jonah 4
