“So I returned, and considered all the oppression that are done under the sun: and behold the tears of such as were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was no power; but they had no comforter.” Ecclesiastes 4 v1
The journey to understand all that we know, or that we think we know.
The oppressed-how is it we treat one another-, are we the oppressed or the oppressor? If we can consider only what we know of ourselves and what we know of all others where is that we can stand?
In the scriptures after today’s verse all right work is considered, “for this a man is envied of his neighbor.” The preacher goes on to call it vanity. To measure everything in it’s content of our own world today, where do we stand. In the scriptures prior to today’s verse it is written “All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.”
There is coming a time when all the gains of this world will be of nothing. What we carry from here will be what is the essence of our relationship to God, by knowing his son Jesus, and being guided by his spirit, the holy one that is to live within us.
This life is difficult, to see how one strives against another. This life is difficult, to see how many have what seems as no respect for God, not that condemnation is wished upon them, but that the liberty that comes with knowing God is being missed by them.
Where do we stand? Lord help me this day, to live my life with hope in you.
On into the scripture it reads “Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God:” meaning walk prudently, draw near to God “and be more ready to hear, than to give sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil.” Hear what the Lord is saying to you rather than boast or be prideful of what we do for his house, consider our ways and repent of our evil.
And closing “Be not rash with thy mouth and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon the earth; therefore let thy words be few.”
What is it that hasn’t been said? How are we to be understood? May the Lord prepare us to receive him at the end of our journey and may he allow us to receive his ways as we are on this journey. Amen
