“But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in king’s houses.” Mathew 11 v9
Jesus spoke hear to “all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.-But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.”
Jesus was clarifying the difference of understanding people and also those who we put of faith and trust in. He made the distinguished difference of one “clothed in soft clothing?” or the one in whom he was baptized by on this earth who had the appearance like this-“had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins;”.
Scripture points out the significant difference in appearance connected to lifestyles, and the one dressed fitting the lifestyle of one not accepted by the other was the one who Jesus said this of -“Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist:”…
The questions here was to point out the importance or unimportance of dress or even more- the insignificance of the importance of reputation gained or achievement in this life. The point was that those who receive Christ and bring the message of Christ is far more significant in Heavenly treasures than any status achieved on this side of Heaven. It is a great thing to accomplish much in life, to do well and accomplish much because mostly it can be used for the greater good, but the most significant thing is this,
to know-,Jesus-“In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:” – and to let this be the reason we do what we do.
Lord, help us this day to follow you. Amen
