“And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me. And he said unto him,
Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you?
And he said unto them,
Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
And he spake a parable unto them, saying,
The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.” Luke 12 v13-21 AKJV
To be like Jesus. Turning loose of the things of this world seem more difficult than it should at times. There are so many right reasons to try and hold onto ‘stuff’ longer than we really should. We convince ourselves we are doing it for others most of the time, and of course that is true, but what we fail to look at is-What are the others going to do with it?
The world culture today is inflamed by commercialism to the point that no person is in control. The culture driven marketing pushes everyone to the brink of thinking they always need more. It takes them to a place of being owned by creditors until they either loose what they have or break free from that bond. This also drives the coveting spirit within our societies. To be able to turn all that loose is a burden that is pleasing to the Lord, and to ones self.
Broken all the way down, a lot of finger pointing accusations would be thrown around so starting with first things first-
Let us be glad when our names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
“He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. … But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. … And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither what-soever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.” Revelation 21 v7-8, 27 AKJV
Lord, help me to get the right things right, even more than just doing the right thing. Forgive us where we fail and bless this day, it is your day. Amen.
