The Lord appeared to Solomon in the fashion he chose and confirmed to him that he had heard his prayer. That day set forward a place for lasting time to this day of a place of prayer. The Lord will hear our prayers as well.
Life is conditional upon the choices we make as individuals, as a community, and as a nation. The explanation of how to live with the assurances of God and live as far away from his precepts and standards as possible if difficult to find. The confirmation that the Lord gives when we are on the right track (or seeking to be on the right track) is not necessary to explain, but serves well at times as a testimony to him.
