“And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the Lord God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over.” 2 Kings 2 v14
Elisha was to carry on, even beyond the life of Elijah of who the Lord God had used greatly. Elisha had spent time with Elijah in living life and watched as a witness as Elijah ascended up into the heaven’s in a chariot of fire drawn by horses of fire.
Both men experienced God in a magnificent way, both men were also used of God in the lives of many that we likely will find out about on the other side of the Jordan river.
As the mark in time of the end of this year is upon us, so is the mark of time of the beginning of next year. Prior to the verse of today in the book of 2 Kings, Elijah is guarded by the answered prayers to God. He is approached by the different army’s of fifty men each with their captains and told to come down off the mountain by the King “Thou man of God.”
Elijah’s answer to them was answered by God. “…If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty.” twice this happened and the fire consumed them. The third time, the approach was different, they “came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and besought him,”
Later in the scriptures of 2 kings, Elisha takes up the mantle of Elijah, and he to parts the waters by the spirit of God upon him. Elisha had asked for a double portion of the spirit of Elijah, and upon watching him ascend in the chariot of fire was granted this portion.
God is no respecter of persons, he is our strength, our defense, our shield, our refuge, and so much more. Even in our weakest moments, or especially in our weakest moments he will be their for us to call upon him.
As this year ends, for my wife and myself, we could share some real experiences of the year. Some very difficult, some very good. Life has happened for us in a way that was made for us, and we are fortunate to have lived it, even the difficult parts.

He can part the waters still. Be blessed. Amen
